In my early adulthood, my life was plagued with disappointments. Failed relationships, unfulfilling jobs, and a heavy cloud of low self-esteem followed me everywhere. I didn’t know how to process the pain, so I turned to food for comfort. Eating became my coping mechanism, a way to numb emotions I didn’t want to face. But emotional eating didn’t fix anything, it only made me sicker.

Anytime I can steal away to the Caribbean during the first quarter of the year, it’s a special occasion. This year my Pisces birthday celebration began with a return to the island of Sint Maarten (Dutch) or Saint Maarten (French). The island is divided, with 44% of the population on the southern end influenced by the Dutch and the northern 56% influenced by the French.
